About Our Value Grade Classroom Rugs

Smart shoppers know that a cosmetic imperfection has nothing to do with how a rug performs. Our Value Grade rugs are the same first-quality classroom carpets you will find in thousands of schools across the country.

Offered at around 20% less than the standard price because of a minor cosmetic variation that has no effect on durability, safety, or function.

Every Value Grade rug is brand new, never used, and meets the same strict fire safety, air quality, and construction standards as our full-price inventory. The only difference is a cosmetic variation that did not meet the manufacturers rigid first-quality grading standards. These variations may include:

        • A slight color variation or minor dye inconsistency
        • Small dye spots or faint printer lines

In a busy classroom, these variations are virtually unnoticeable once the rug is down and students are sitting on it. What you will notice is the savings, and a classroom that looks just as organized and welcoming as any other.

Please note: Value Grade inventory is limited and changes frequently. Once a style sells out it may not be restocked. If you see it, it is worth grabbing.

        Questions about a specific rug? | help@sensoryedge.com  800-734-8019

Heres a classroom activity for the colorful alphabet rug, suitable for young learners:

      Activity Title: Alphabet Adventure Hop

      Learning Objectives:

      • Letter recognition (uppercase and lowercase)

      • Letter-sound correspondence (beginning sounds)

      • Gross motor skills

      • Following directions

      • Cooperation and turn-taking

      Materials:

      • The colorful alphabet rug (as pictured)

      • Small objects or picture cards representing words that start with each letter of the alphabet (e.g., an apple for A, a ball for B, a cat for C, etc. You dont need one for every letter, but a good selection is helpful).

      • Optional: Whiteboard or large paper for writing

      • Optional: Music player

      Setup:

      1. Place the alphabet rug in an open area of the classroom where students have space to move around it.

      2. Scatter the small objects or picture cards around the rug, or place them in a basket for easy access.

      Activity Instructions:

      Part 1: Letter Recognition Hop

      1. Introduce the Rug: Gather students around the rug. Point out the letters and the different colored rows. "Look at our amazing alphabet rug! It has all the letters of the alphabet, and they are so colorful!"

      2. "Find the Letter" Hop: Call out a letter (e.g., "Who can find the letter D?" or "Hop to the letter T!"). Students take turns hopping or stepping onto the correct letter square.

        • Differentiation: For younger students, call out uppercase letters. For older students, call out lowercase letters and have them find the corresponding uppercase (or vice versa).

      3. "Color Hop": Call out a color and ask students to hop on any letter within that color row. "Lets all hop on a letter in the red row!"

      4. "ABC Order Hop": Have students take turns hopping along the alphabet in order (Aa, Bb, Cc...). This can be done individually or as a group.

Part 2: Beginning Sounds Scavenger Hunt

      1. Introduce the Concept: Hold up an object or picture card (e.g., an apple). "What is this? An apple! What sound does apple start with? /a/ /a/ apple! Which letter makes the /a/ sound?"

      2. Match and Place: Students identify the starting sound and hop to the corresponding letter on the rug. Once they are on the letter, they can place the object/card on that letter square.

        • Example: If you show a picture of a "cat," a student would hop to "Cc" and place the picture there.

      3. Team Challenge (Optional): Divide the class into two teams. Give each team a set of objects/cards. On your signal, they race to place their objects on the correct letter squares on the rug. The first team to correctly place all their items wins!

Part 3: Alphabet Action Dance (Optional, for high energy!)

      1. Play some energetic music.

      2. When the music stops, call out a letter. Students must quickly hop to that letter.

      3. Once on the letter, call out an action that starts with that letters sound (e.g., for "Jj," "Jump!"). Students perform the action.

        • Examples:

          • A: Arm circles

          • B: Bounce

          • C: Clap

          • D: Dance

          • E: Elbow wiggle

          • F: Flap arms

          • G: Gallop

          • H: Hop

          • I: Inchworm crawl

          • J: Jump

          • K: Kick

          • L: Leap

          • M: March

          • N: Nod

          • O: Open and close hands

          • P: Pat your head

          • Q: Quiet stretch

          • R: Run in place

          • S: Shake

          • T: Tap toes

          • U: Underneath stretch

          • V: V-shape body

          • W: Wiggle

          • X: X-jump (jumping jack)

          • Y: Yawn stretch

          • Z: Zig-zag run

      Extension Activities:

      • Story Time Hop: As you read an alphabet book, have students hop to the letter as you read about it.

      • "My Name Starts With...": Have students find the letter their name starts with and stand on it.

      • Create Your Own Words: With older students, challenge them to stand on three different letters and try to make a word using those letters (e.g., C-A-T).

      Assessment:

      • Observe students ability to correctly identify and hop to letters.

      • Listen for accurate letter-sound correspondence.

      • Note their participation and engagement.

This activity is highly adaptable to different age groups and learning levels, making the alphabet rug a dynamic and engaging learning tool!

      Classroom Design

Classroom rugs serve a very different purpose than rugs made for homes or decorative spaces. Every SensoryEdge rug is designed specifically for learning environments, where students sit, move, and learn together every single day.

What Makes a Rug a True Classroom Rug

      Intentional spacing
Each seat is sized to support personal space and healthy classroom routines, not just aesthetics.
      Colors chosen for focus
Thoughtfully selected palettes that engage young learners without creating visual overload or distraction.
      Materials built for daily use
Engineered for constant foot traffic, active kids, and years of classroom life.
      Sizes planned for real classrooms
Not adapted from home décor, but built to fit actual classroom layouts from the start.

Many rugs sold online are home décor products repurposed for classroom use. SensoryEdge rugs are designed with teachers and students in mind from day one - and that difference shows up every morning at circle time.

If you’re furnishing a classroom, therapy space, or early learning environment, choosing a rug designed specifically for that purpose makes a meaningful difference throughout the school year.

      Value Grade Details

      Value Grade, Cosmetic Variations
These Factory Second classroom rugs offer the same classroom-ready functionality at a lower price. They are brand new rugs that did not meet first-quality visual standards but are fully usable in learning spaces.

      What this means:

      • Minor cosmetic variations may be present
      • Examples can include small color differences, light dye marks, subtle printer lines, or slight backing or seam irregularities
      • These variations do not affect the rug’s ability to be used in classrooms, libraries, or learning environments

Factory Second rugs are a great choice when appearance perfection is less important than function, durability, and value. Quantities are limited and cosmetic differences vary from rug to rug.
