Description

The Rainmaker Sensory Wall Toy by HABA is the only panel in the HABA single-panel lineup that adds an auditory dimension to the sensory experience - children rotate the painted panel to produce the sound of rain as beads move through the internal chamber.

The face of the panel shows an earth scene with a house, trees, a car, and four rain clouds, giving the rain sound a visual context that makes the cause-and-effect relationship immediately clear. Turn the panel one way, rain falls. Turn it back, rain falls again.

Every other HABA single panel engages sight and touch. The Rainmaker adds sound - specifically the slow, irregular cascade of beads that mimics the sound of falling rain. That distinction matters in two practical ways. First, it attracts children from across the room who hear it being played before they can see it clearly.

Second, the sound of rain is one of the most universally calming natural sounds, which makes this panel a meaningfully different addition to a sensory installation than another visual-tactile panel.

Made in Germany by HABA from birch veneer with water-based, solvent-free lacquer. Item 120373. Ten year warranty. Part of the HABA Guide Rail System for modular multi-panel installations.

Where These Work Best

Sensory rooms and therapy environments

The slow, irregular sound of simulated rain is a well-established calming auditory input in sensory processing and occupational therapy environments. Children who are overstimulated, anxious, or dysregulated respond to rain sounds in a way that active mechanical panel sounds — clicks, rattles, gear turns — do not produce. For sensory rooms, therapy waiting areas, and calm-down spaces where auditory regulation is part of the environmental design, the Rainmaker panel provides that input in a durable, wall-mounted format that requires no power, no maintenance, and no staff operation.

Pediatric and medical waiting rooms

The cause-and-effect simplicity of the Rainmaker — rotate the panel, hear rain, rotate it back, hear rain again — engages toddlers and young children immediately and repeatably. The earth-scene artwork gives children a visual anchor for the sound they are producing, reinforcing the connection between the rotating action and its outcome. For anxious children waiting before an appointment, the gentle, repetitive nature of the activity and sound provides a calming focus that more stimulating panels do not.

Modular HABA wall installations

As part of the HABA Guide Rail System, the Rainmaker panel adds the one sensory dimension that no other single panel in the HABA lineup provides - sound. A multi-panel installation that includes the Rainmaker alongside visual and tactile panels delivers a genuinely multi-sensory environment rather than a collection of panels that all engage the same two senses. The earth and weather theme also coordinates naturally with nature-inspired panels for a wall installation with a cohesive visual narrative.

Cleaning Your Waiting Area Toys

Keeping waiting area toys clean is simple when you use the right products. Our wall toys and activity panels are built with smooth, hard surfaces specifically designed to clean quickly and safely alongside other high-contact surfaces in your facility.

We recommend hospital-grade disinfectant wipes such as those from the PDI line, which are widely used in medical, dental, and therapy settings. When choosing a disinfectant wipe for your waiting area toys, look for the following:

Effective against germs Choose wipes that clearly state effectiveness against common bacteria and viruses. This information is listed on the packaging based on the wipe's active ingredients.
Safe for children and staff Look for wipes labeled safe for use in environments where children are present. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions, including any hand-washing recommendations after use.
Low odor and low residue Modern disinfectant wipes are designed to clean thoroughly without leaving harsh chemical fumes or irritating residue, making them ideal for enclosed spaces like waiting rooms and therapy clinics.
Fast drying Most hospital-grade wipes air dry within approximately 90 seconds, allowing toys to be returned to use immediately with minimal downtime for your staff.
Surface compatible Always confirm the wipe is appropriate for the surface being cleaned. Some formulations are not recommended for certain finishes, so checking the label prevents surface damage over time.
Environmentally conscious Many disinfectant wipes are now made with biodegradable materials and reduced chemical concentrations, offering strong cleaning performance with a lower environmental footprint.

Using the right disinfectant wipes keeps your waiting area toys clean, safe, and ready for the next child, while protecting both your patients and your staff. If you have questions about cleaning a specific product, we are always happy to help at help@sensoryedge.com or 800-734-8019.
