Game ideas using the world map rug

7. Travel the World: Assign each student a starting country. They must then "travel" to different countries on the rug, following a set of movement rules (e.g. hop to a neighboring country, take 3 steps to cross an ocean, etc.). Students can collect "passport stamps" as they visit new locations.
8. Landmark Identification: Place small object markers on various landmarks around the world. Have students take turns identifying the landmark and its location on the rug.
9. Climate Zones: Designate different climate zones (polar, temperate, tropical, etc.) on the rug. Call out a climate type and have students race to stand in the corresponding zone.
10. Time Zones: Set up a time zone game, where students move their markers across the rug to match the current time in different regions of the world.
11. Disaster Response: Present students with a natural disaster scenario (e.g. hurricane, earthquake) and have them strategize the best evacuation routes and relief efforts based on the map.
12. Cultural Exploration: Place cultural icons (flags, food, music) around the rug and have students match them to the appropriate country/region.
13. Treasure Hunt: Hide small objects around the rug to represent "treasures." Give students clues to locate the treasures and mark their coordinates on the map.
