Circle Hop Rug Activity

Objective: Develop balance, coordination, and following instructions.

Setup:

  1. Use the rug as is, with each circular shape representing a "station".
  2. Have children gather around the rug.

How to play:

  1. One child or the teacher acts as the "caller".
  2. The caller gives instructions like:
    • "Hop to a circle with two rings!"
    • "Place your right foot on a circle with three rings!"
    • "Jump to a circle in the top row!"
  3. Children must quickly find and move to the appropriate circles.
  4. Last child to find a correct circle is out or gets a fun task to do.
  5. Continue until one winner remains or for a set time period.

Variations:

  • Use colors: Place colored paper circles on some "stations" for added complexity.
  • Math version: "Hop to a circle with prime number of rings!"
  • Team play: Divide into teams, race to find correct circles.
