Grid Adventures Rug Game

Materials needed:

• Classroom grid rug
• Dice (or number cards)
• Small objects or tokens to represent students

Setup:

1. Designate one corner of the grid as the "Start" and the opposite corner as the "Finish."
2. Place tokens representing each student on the "Start" square.

How to play:

1. Students take turns rolling the dice or drawing a number card.
2. They move their token the corresponding number of squares in any direction (up, down, left, or right), but not diagonally.
3. The teacher can add various elements to make the game more educational and fun: a) Math squares: Place math problems on some squares. When a student lands on one, they must solve it to stay on that square. b) Language squares: Add sight words or simple spelling words. Students must read or spell the word correctly. c) Action squares: Include squares that require a physical action (e.g., "Do 5 jumping jacks" or "Hop on one foot for 10 seconds"). d) Question squares: The teacher asks a grade-appropriate question about a recent lesson.
4. If a student can't complete the task on their square, they move back to their previous position.
5. The first student to reach the "Finish" square wins.

Variations:
