Classroom Screen Sieves Kit

The Classroom Screen Sieves Kit let students separate and grade soil and rock samples in order to determine the make-up of soil strata. The kits includes bottom pan and lid with Teacher's Guide and sieves. Labels with various mesh sizes are provided in this kit. Placing the corresponding mesh size label on the side ofthe plastic sieves will assist in identification and arrangement of the sieves.

Soil is composed of various particles which can be separated and identified. Soil particles range from gravel to sand to clay, and each particle has its own identifiable characteristics. The investigation of soil particles is part of soil science, which is sometimes called pedology.

Porosity, permeability, and capillartty are all greatly affected by the particle size of earth materials. The screen sieves are used to investigate these properties.
