I have been a fan of Brainy Baby videos for years. My daughter learned her ABC’s watching them and couldn’t get enough of the Art and Animals DVDs. But when it was time for my son to start watching, he wasn’t interested in watching a TV screen. I didn’t complain and didn’t push it. And then, a couple of months before his second birthday, we learned that he had a seizure disorder that resulted in the loss of his speech development and caused learning and developmental delays for the next three years. We put him in speech therapy, occupational therapy, adaptive PE and enrolled him in a special needs pre-school where he has been catching up with his peers and getting ready for kindergarten next year. However despite his seizures now being controlled by medication and a lot of the therapy, he couldn’t remember any numbers or letters (expect for a couple in his own name) and we were starting to panic if he would be able to keep up in kindergarten.

About a month ago, I decided to break out one of our old Brainy Baby DVDs – the ABC's specifically. After reading an article on the Internet about learning delays (specifically one about techniques for teaching kids with Auditory Processing Disorder), I decided to put the DVD on in the car so that my son could watch it with his headphones on to filter out distractions. Immediately, he began repeating the name of the letter, its sound, and an object that began with that letter. We were excited that for the first time, he showed interest in learning his letters and made the effort to repeat them. The next day he pointed to the letter “O” on a sign and said: “Otter starts with O.” I will admit that I started to cry.

In the past three weeks, our son has learned 11 letters from watching the Brainy Baby ABC’s DVD. His teachers are amazed but best of all; he is interested in learning more. There are not enough words in this world to express how grateful I am for these DVDs. I would also like to suggest that the name be changed from Brainy Baby to Brainy Kids because they can be a powerful tool for several stages of development.

On a side note, my daughter who is now eight was featured in a city-wide art show this weekend. And when her grandmother asked where she learned to blend colors, she said that she learned it when she was little watching the Brainy Baby Art DVD.

Thank you again for such a wonderful line. Keep it up!
